Allotment
project
£400
funding for allotment
September 2005: The group is grateful to have been given a
grant from the Wales Churches Fund (WCF) to develop the allotment
project. With this money the group will purchase a shed and
some materiels to make the entrance safer and less slippery
when wet. Hopefully we can also purchase some tools. At present
all tools are on loan to the project from volunteers.
Short report by Trish Johns
The allotment is at the Caeperllan Rd Allotment site. We have
been going every Tuesday and Saturday morning but as college
has now started and most of the gardeners will be full time
at Coleg Gwent (Nash) learning English we will probably have
to just do Saturdays - but maybe a longer session
We have harvested french and runner beans, courgettes, sweet
corn, marrows, swiss chard, potatoes, tomatos, aubergines,
a range of different lettuces, radishes and carrots with plenty
more to pick over the next month or so. We have some pumpkins
fattening up nicely and have managed to stop the pigeons eating
our cabbages and winter greens. Each week we share the produce
picked between the people who have worked that morning. I
have to raid the plastic bag recycling bin at Tesco's so that
we have enough carrier bags to take it all home.
